9. Rafael Benitez – 6 Years – Liverpool
In 9th of the Top 10 Longest Serving Managers in English Football is a manager you didn’t quite win much with top club Liverpool but will always be loved by the Liverpool for one thing he won for them which will always remain in the Liverpool fans heart and the Liverpool team and that’s the 2005 Champions League which was won in such an unusual and dramatic way.
One of Rafa Benitez first tasks as manager was to stop Steven Gerrard from joining rivals Chelsea, The Spanish manager managed to do so. In his first season Bemitez failed to turn around Liverpool‘s poor form and challenge for the Premier League as he finished a disappointing 5th place but managed to reach the finals of the League cup but lost to Jose Mourinho‘s Chelsea team.
He managed to win a major trophy in what people consider as a Classic final in Istanbul against Italian giants AC Milan, Liverpool went 3-0 down to AC Milan in the first half but manage to draw level in the second half and force extra time in the final and went on to win 5-3 on penalties to win their 5th Champions League title.
In 2010 after a series of bad results, Rafael Benitez left the club by mutual consent, but the media speculated that he quit after finishing 7th in the Premier League missing out on a Champions League spot.
