2 Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany) – Bayern Munich
Starring in the West German squad for the 1966 World Cup, and as attacking midfielder he scored four goals as the German side won its way into the final. Franz Anton Beckenbauer was told to play deeper in midfield to try and stop the attacking of Bobby Charlton, but he was unsuccessful that day, However, on his return to the Bundesliga he would adapt to a deeper Libero Centre Half role in the heart of defence
