Rock Beefs That Are Worth Winning Lots of Oscar Awards: Don’t Mess With These Guys
Rock bands have mesmerized us with their catchy tunes for decades now. However, even in the world of entertainment, bitter enmity exists. When thongs turn the worst, the rock fans are once again a mesmerized lot as they root for their favorite rock band. Here are some of the all-time worst feuds that have even left scars in some incidences.
8. The Von Bondies vs. Jack White
Even if feuds are at times just a ghastly site, this one actually turned violent. White was once a major supporter of the Detroit garage rockers. He is acknowledged for having produced for Von Bondies; this is after having signed them. When Jason and Jack got into a physical confrontation however, things turned for the worst. After holding his tongue on The Von Bondies singer, the Stollsteimer, for a quite a number of months, White finally claimed that the singer had exploited injuries sustained from a bar fight as a way of helping the band with its sales.
7. Santana vs. Kiss
For a band which presumably wants to maintain a stint of rocking all night and partying all day, Carlos Santana was quite a bitter man for quite some reason and for this, he did not have some very kind words for them. This is what Santana said regarding Gene Simmons, the front man of Kiss; “He’s not a musician, he’s an entertainer. Kiss is Las Vegas entertainment, so he wouldn’t know what music is anyway. That’s why he wears all that stuff.” What a condescending statement, ouch! That is a warranted feud.
6. Poison vs. Guns n’ Roses
After stating boldly that Poison was simply but a bunch of wannabes who had even mastered the guts to crash most of their concerts, Axl Rose might not have known it at the moment but he caused quite a stir that would last for some time. Following this, at one time, Poison once intimidated and threatened a Guns n’ Roses publicist in a Los Angeles Night club. The female publicist didn’t take this lying down and carried on this feud to the larger population of Guns n’ Roses fans. This created a hell of a major rivalry.
5. The Flaming Lips vs. Arcade Fire
It only took these words from the Flaming Lips front man to cause a major feud, “They have good tunes, but they’re pricks, so f*** em.” These were the worlds that would set these two giants in indie rock worlds apart. According to his account, he had presumably witnessed Arcade Fire treat their roadies in a demeaning manner; also, they had acted rudely towards their audiences according to him. As a shot back at the instigator of the feud, Butler blurted out that the Flaming Lips did not know any individual who was a member of his band. Following this, there was a bit of cooling of tempers as Coyne reportedly apologized for the entire incident. After the honest apology, Coyne ended up admitting that he even liked a lot of their music. In his words, “I like enough of their music.”
4. Michael Jackson vs. Paul McCartney
Back in 1985, The Beatles’ catalog rights catalog was up for grabs, there were many contenders for this and as fate would have it, a feud was in the offing. Following this auction publicly announced, there turned up to be a major duel between these two all time stars. Eventually, Michael Jackson outbid Paul McCartney and following this, the latter felt as if he had been unfairly slighted by the renowned King of Pop music. He also acted agitated when Michael Jackson agreed to the terms of Nike to allow for an advertisement on their hit song, Revolution. As history would bear witness to, this was the very first time a song recorded by The Beatles had been used for an advertisement.
3. Nirvana vs. Guns n’ Roses
By now, you’ve probably figured out that Axl Rose has a short temper issue. Well, he does not disappoint in this as well. When Nirvana declined to Guns n’ Roses request to do a tour together, Axl Rose was a very bitter man indeed. He felt slighted and could not hide the fact. Even after declining to do a tour together, Cobain went a step further to cause some further agitation by stating vocally that Guns n’ Roses wrote a lot of crap music. Being the man that he was, Axl Rose did not take this lightly. He resulted to vehemently challenging Cobain on many incidents. If the feud was to end by his way, the only thing satisfactory enough to him was if he had a bare knuckle fight with Cobain.
2. Oasis vs. Blur
During their exalted battle for supremacy, the rivalry had taken to the charts and clearly wasn’t showing signs of letting up any time soon. As their way proving once and for all who the victor between them was, these two bands resulted in a rather bold way of determining that; they released their singles on the exact same day. Noel Gallagher, the Oasis singer, had some very kind words to trade with his rivals for the feud. He publicly stated that it was his wish that Blur members all contract Aids and die, fading away into oblivion.
1. Pavement vs. Smashing Pumpkins
In their famous tune ‘Range Life’, Pavement depicts quite a bizarre choice of lyrics about The Smashing Pumpkins. Within no time, The Smashing Pumpkins front man, Bill Corgan, caught wind of the lyrics and did not take them kindly, quite understandably so. Following this, he publicly stated that “People don’t fall in love to Pavement. They put on Smashing Pumpkins or Hole or Nirvana, because these bands actually mean something to them.” Wow, what a beefed up statement! When it comes to rock band feuds, we would say that this one takes the top spot.
